Mother Teresa contributed to many things, they are:
1. She was a teacher and principal to a school where the Ssters of Loreto sent her, called St. Mary’s High School.
2. Mother Teresa set up free medical centers for the sick and dying.
3. Mother Teresa started the Missionaries of Charity.They are a group of people who want to help the poor of India.
4. When she saw a dead woman on the ground, Mother Teresa in 1952 opened the first home for the dying –Nirma Hriday (means pure heart). It was held in an abandoned temple. It was for people who are chronically ill, meaning that there was no cure for their illnesses. Most of them were homeless, so they had no family or friends to care for them.
5. When Mother Teresa was in India and she saw all the homeless children. She decided to start an orphanage. In 1955 Mother Teresa opened an orphanage called Nirmala Shishu Bhavan, meaning the children’s home of the Immaculate heart - as a home for orphans and abandoned children. Also in this orphanage there is a school for the homeless to be educated.
6. When Mother Teresa was visited by two people who had leprosy, she decided she must help them. So in 1957 Mother Teresa opened a free medical center to help and treat the patients’ specific symptoms. But soon there was another problem more and more lepers’ started coming to the village when they heard what Mother Teresa was doing. So she decided to have a fundraising campaign to collect donations. Doing so, many people sent donations. Also the highest authority of the Catholic Church – the Pope, also joined the campaign. When Pope Paul VI visited India in 1964, he donated his luxury car for the cause. Mother Teresa with the money bought 200 miles of land. With the help of many volunteers in 5 years the village was completed. Mother Teresa named the city “Shanti Nagar” the City of Peace.
7. In 1976 Mother Teresa want to Guatemala to help the victims of a big earthquake.
8. In 1982 Mother Teresa helped negotiate a ceasefire in Beirut – Lebanon between Palestinians and Israelis in order to rescue
thirty-seven children trapped in a hospital.
9. In 1985 Mother Teresa launched the first center for AIDS victims in New York City. Like the people who suffered from leprosy
